The Exhibitor’s Tool-Box
How do you translate a request for double-sided carpet tape into Japanese, or shipping labels into Swahili? An interesting question when you are exhibiting internationally. You have packed everything you need for the show: the booth, signs, your collateral materials, office supplies even your clothes. But have you prepared for last minute, unexpected emergencies?
Handling these situations in a familiar environment can be difficult, but in an unfamiliar venue it can lead to catastrophe. Your efforts to locate last minute items can end up costing considerably more than they are worth. Worse yet you may end up with alternative solutions which are second best and can affect the look and performance of your booth.
Well planned exhibitors say their most valued possession at the show is a miscellaneous tool box. This is an assortment of sundry items that will take care of those last minute problems that invariably come up.
The other advantage of being well prepared is the opportunity to build a strong favour bank among your neighbouring exhibitors who inevitable need something that you have in your miscellaneous tool box.
Not all tool boxes are alike. Every exhibitor’s needs are different. Most often you begin with a little sack that contains a few indispensable items and as your show experiences grow so does your tool box.
Here are some of the items you should consider adding to your miscellaneous tool box:
Double sided carpet tape, masking tape, shipping tape, screws, nails, hammer, screw-driver, string, rope, shipping labels, extra pair of shoes, band-aids, stain remover, paint brush, touch up paint, broom, lint brush, glass cleaner, rags, paper towel, utility knife, pens, business cards, lead cards and a bottle of Tylenol.
Add to this list as time goes by. Experience is your best teacher. A miscellaneous tool box...don’t leave home without one.
